Success in any business requires you to take enough action. I
recently read a great book titled, “Home Run Financial Planning,”
by Steve and Adam Straseske. In the book it said, “If you don’t
take action, all the planning in the world is worthless.
Intentions without action do not produce results.” I
completely agree with this statement. I wrote a book a
few years ago title, “Success Requires Action,” and I
spoke about how I had grown my company with no
money. The book was a hit with all who
read it, so when I read this line in Steve and Adam’s book, it
was just a reminder to me that success requires action.

are in, you have to make the phone calls. You have to
send the emails and you have to show up. You can’t
sit in the office all day and expect people to just show
up. I wish it were that easy. I tried it that way for a
long time, and I about lost everything I owned. I
had a great product to offer people, and I paid the
money to open a store front here in our town. Did
the store front help my company? No it didn’t.
Within a year’s time, we had five people walk in
off the street. We lost money on the office after
paying rent. The one thing that propelled my
company to financial success was when I decided
to create a catalog of the products and services I could provide to business owners in my town. I printed hundreds of these 32 page catalogs on my home printer and stapled them together. I literally got in my truck and drove door-to-door speaking with business owners and managers asking them for their business. Of all the money I spent on marketing and advertising, nothing worked as well as being face to face with business owners. The point is, get in front of your target market.

We have spent thousands of dollars on advertising across Facebook, Google, YouTube, Twitter and other online platforms. All of these platforms gave us some type of return for our money. That is if you consider a LIKE on your Facebook page an legitimate lead. No, I don’t think so either.
However, I will say that out of all the online advertising we did, we always received a positive response from YouTube ads. Anytime we have ever ran a YouTube video ad, someone has called us. Did it always turn into a sale? Not always, but YouTube has generated us about $6000.00 within a six year span. The interesting thing about the sales we received wasn’t from the ads we ran. They were from people seeing the videos we posted. If I had to say there is a key #2, then it would definitely be this: Start posting videos on YouTube.
As time has gone on, we noticed we were spending a lot of money printing these catalogs. Even though they were generating leads and sales, we were spending way too much money. We were able to condense our 32 page catalog down to a single brochure. We placed our highest selling products in the brochure, and now we push people to our website. Out of all the print companies in the world, why did we think it was a great idea for us to start another one? The answer is really simple to be honest. We have other products that we offer at a higher percentage that allows us to make larger profits, and on these particular products, we are still about 50% cheaper than other companies. What we have done with our print company is quite genius.
